This year, Shirtliff from SMK Seri Bintang Utara returned with a vengeance with a synchronized routine that uses sound effects to enhance their jumps and tumbles. Our girls clad in black, yellow and white and led by captain Wong Lye Kuan from 5 Omega performed their splits and twists with such great precision that they were definite medal contenders. Oozing with energy and confidence, the girls leapt in to the air and did a 720 degree twist toss dramatically. The crowd went berserk!. This victory is especially sweet as they have been the three-time champions: in Cheer 2000 when it debuted, Cheer 2003 and Cheer 2004. After the inter house Cheer Competition, the squad worked very hard for one month learning the dance and cheer routines to prepare for the competition. They had great practice session and did not take any breaks even during the term holidays. They were very focused, motivated and excited as they continued to word hard at every practice. With this victory under their belt, there is a renewed zeal in cheerleading as they were very disheartened in the years before. “The pressure is different at Cheer 2007 because we want to hit a clean routine in front of all the other amazing teams. We know that the expectations are very high for every team to represent the company that sponsored them. That makes the pressure different. You don’t have to worry where you are ranked as much as you do hitting a solid routine” said teacher advisor Miss Sri Devi. Shirtliff won medals, RM3,000 cash, RM300 Silkygirl hamper, RM1,200 Momoe products, RM500 McDonald’s vouchers, while each cheerleader received a copy of the book Rewind, Fast Forward and RM50 MPH book vouchers Cheer 2007 was organized by The StarYouth2 and sponsored by cosmetics brand Silkygirl. The event was supported by the Ministries of Youth and Sports and Education. The official media partners were 8TV and Suria FM. The Cheerleader would like to thank all teachers, parents, students, ex-students and friends for being there and supported them! “We couldn’t have done it without you!” say the team. |
